: : It is not done automatically.....it is prudent to, and you should claim copyright with the proper citation or you will likely have no recourse against anyone who "innocently" takes your work. I know, I teach broadcast and communications law. : As long as you can prove or provide original documentation you shouldn't have too much of a problem proving the authenticity of whatever you're trying to prove. It does help putting a watermark on a photo or putting "copyright 2001 to blah blah blah". : Here's a quote from David Freeman's Law's Order:
: "While the United States maintains a copyright registry, and registration of your work gives you some additional protection against infringers, it is not necessary to register in order to be covered by copyright. It is not even necessary to attach a copyright notice" True...that is the law...but it is the courts who interpert that law and the courts have traditionally required proof to bring a case of civil or statutory action.
